The ACT Workbook for Procrastination
by Dr. Z. , Patricia E. Zurita Ona, Psy.D.,
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been sitting with a question that so many of my clients bring into the room: why do I keep putting things off, even when I genuinely want to take care of them?
When living with OCD or anxiety, procrastination can feel like another heavy burden. This is what inspired me to write The ACT Workbook for the Anxious Procrastinator.
This workbook doesn’t lecture or push ‚Äúproductivity hacks‚Äù. Instead, it offers gentle, practical skills rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT).
This is a compassionate guide that speaks directly to those who procrastinate, not because they’re lazy or unmotivated, but because they care so much it feels overwhelming, because they get stuck in their heads, not knowing how to take action when their minds are flooded with fears of terrible outcomes, and because shame and self-doubt sneak in.

Hopewell has made several exciting updates to strengthen our community and support our residents. Two new clinical supervision-level positions were added this year, expanding our ability to deliver high-quality care. One of these clinicians also attended the IOCDF Conference in Chicago, bringing back new modalities and best practices to enhance our programming.
Looking ahead, Hopewell has launched a five-year infrastructure improvement plan. Projects include renovating living quarters, updating common spaces, paving walkways, and more. Each is designed to improve daily life and foster a welcoming, therapeutic environment.
Clinicians continue to focus on reducing stigma around mental health and empowering residents through new initiatives. One recent addition is Life Goal Focus (LGF), an open clinical group accessible to all residents, regardless of diagnosis. LGF helps participants explore avoidance patterns, build understanding of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) concepts, and practice adaptive strategies for distress.
Our ERP program as a whole remains robust and interactive, with residents frequently choosing to participate in exposures beyond Hopewell’s campus. These real-world experiences provide valuable growth opportunities, helping residents build confidence, develop practical coping skills, and take meaningful steps toward greater independence.

hello@mindchicago.com
www.mindchicago.com/
At Mind Chicago, we know families are asking an urgent question: How do you treat both OCD and ADHD without overwhelming kids with too much therapy? The answer may lie not in more therapy for kids, but in empowering parents.
Research tells us that nearly one in five children with OCD also has ADHD. Treating both together can accelerate progress, but individual ADHD interventions for kids often fall short. That’s why we turn to parent-based approaches. Programs like Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for ages 2‚Äì7 and Parent Management Training (PMT), often called Parent Coaching, don’t just improve ADHD symptoms—they strengthen family dynamics, reduce stress, and create the conditions for OCD treatment to work even better.
Let’s be honest: these approaches ask a lot of parents. PCIT and PMT require commitment, reflection, and time—often 14 to 20 weeks of consistent effort. But the payoff is real. Families report lasting changes in child behavior, stronger connections, and meaningful progress with evidence-based OCD care, like exposure and response prevention (ERP).
At Mind Chicago, our clinicians are specially trained in ERP, SPACE, ACT, and parent-based therapies for ADHD, such as PCIT and PMT—providing integrated, research-driven care that helps families feel supported, not overwhelmed.

Mountain Valley is excited to announce a major enhancement to our therapeutic model: the seamless integration of occupational therapy (OT) to deepen and strengthen our ERP framework. This infusion of OT brings a highly practical, skills-based dimension to our work with residents, focusing on real-world functioning, sensory regulation, and activity engagement. By blending OT with ERP, residents gain new ways to approach exposure tasks—turning them from abstract challenges into concrete, lived experiences.
Our OT team works closely with clinical staff to assess each resident’s daily routines, sensory sensitivities, and functional barriers, then designs targeted interventions that support exposure work. This collaboration allows residents to practice skills in a safe, structured environment, making ERP less overwhelming and more sustainable. OT’s focus on graded participation also helps build resilience, self-efficacy, and confidence—key ingredients for long-term progress.
We’re already seeing powerful results. Residents are not only tolerating ERP at higher levels but also transferring their gains more effectively into schoolwork, self-care, and social interaction. This innovation underscores Mountain Valley’s commitment to equipping young people with practical tools and the courage to reengage with life’s demands.

Expanded Services at RFC!
This fall, we are pleased to welcome two Doctoral Practicum Students to our treatment team. Each brings advanced training in evidence-based interventions for anxiety and OCD and provides flexible, sliding-scale therapy options, making high-quality outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) care accessible to a wider range of individuals and families.
Looking ahead to winter, RFC will introduce new anxiety and OCD groups for children, adolescents, and adults. These groups are designed to foster community support while teaching practical skills for lasting change.
Our mission remains clear: to help people of all ages regain freedom from anxiety and OCD with compassionate & high-quality evidence-based care.

The Concord Center specializes in evidence-based care across the lifespan, including CBT, DBT, and ACT approaches.
This past year, we launched our Accelerated Outpatient Programs (AOPs) for adolescents and adults with moderate to severe anxiety and/or obsessive compulsive disorders. These programs cater to those who have not benefitted from traditional weekly therapy or are stepping down from a higher level of care. We prioritize interventions drawn from CBT with an emphasis on ERP, alongside select DBT & ACT strategies. Clients are paired with ERP coaches who meet them in the community to complete exposures related to top problems & goals. Parents of participating adolescents complete a SPACE-based curriculum to target reducing accommodations to their child’s anxiety/OCD in the home.
We also offer a variety of groups and individual services. Our newest group for Social Anxiety & Related Disorders is designed for high schoolers and provides an opportunity for live ERP practice with trained professionals. Staff additionally hold expertise in treating BFRBs using the COMB model, which they have specifically adapted for younger populations and their families. “The adult OCD Program at UCSF consists of our outpatient clinic, where we provide medication management and cognitive behavioral therapy in our resident training and staff clinics. In particular, we specialize in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of OCD and Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention Therapy (CBIT) for the treatment of tic disorders.
We see patients in the state of California and offer both in-person and telehealth appointments for the outpatient clinic.
For patients needing higher levels of care, we have an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that offers intensive cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and medication management for patients with OCD.
We can also provide referrals to our TMS and Neuromodulation clinic for patients with treatment-refractory OCD, who may benefit from transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and deep brain stimulation (DBS).
We are engaged in research and have several ongoing clinical trials of new treatments for patients with OCD and related disorders. We are actively recruiting participants with OCD for our genetics study and recruiting teenagers with OCD for our teen TMS study. For our DBS research studies, we are looking for people with treatment-refractory OCD.
If you are interested in our research studies, please email us at ocdresearch@ucsf.edu.
